Millies
Millies, an Exhibition at Conway Mill showing work by some of the resident artists launched last night as part of Late Night Art and will continue until 11 August. Although my studio is located at Blackstaff rather than Conway Mill, I was invited to exhibit alongside the collective as a neighbour Millie and showed a wall mounted piece, Slumber
We had a buzzing launch night with people coming to visit the diverse range of artwork on show, from glass, paintings, paper, ceramic to weaving. Not only did everyone seem to enjoy the artwork, but they loved visiting some of the artist studios and taking in this stunning building heaped with Victorian history.
Conway Mill was originally built around 1842, and was one of the first linen spinning mills to be established on the Lower Falls Road. Originally owned by James Kennedy and Sons of Clonard House, the family merged with McConnell to form the Falls Flax Spinning Company in 1865. A new five-storey mill was erected between 1900 and 1910.After an extensive refurbishment the mill is now provides a unique multi-functional space.
Artists at the Mill occupy the top floor of the Mill and consist of a group of talented and creative individuals working across a variety of materials. The majority of artists work on an individual basis, a few times a year they come together to create pop up shops, fairs, exhibitions and open studios. Millies is their most recent event opening which was had a fantastic launch night - I’m still smiling from it!
New Art Classes
Millies not only launched their members exhibition but showcased their latest venture - a brand new art workshop programme featuring the rich and diverse skills the group combines alongside the facilities available on site.
This Autumn sees the first term of this Art Workshop series which hosts an eclectic mix of art classes, ranging from Print, Paper, Painting, Felt, Ceramics and Millinery.
What will make these classes so special is not just making art surrounded by so much history and heritage but our promise to provide value first by keeping numbers low to allow for 1-2-1 tuition and tailored advice.
