When is the Right time to be Creative?
When you’re in the mood?
Right now, it’s 4pm on a Wednesday as I write this and I’m in the mood for a nap. My body and mind are whispering to me to curl up on the sofa and squeeze in ‘just half an hour’ before the husband comes home. No one need know.
Right now, I’m not overly in the mood or feel I have the energy to conquer up the creativity to write about ‘When’s the right time to be creative,’ if I’m being perfectly honest with you. But right now, is when I’ve scheduled a power block (a 1.5 hour time frame) to create new posts on the website.
Right now, I’m tired. But I’ve been doing this long enough to know that creativity isn’t some magical potion that you’ve to grasp just at the ‘right time.’ That if you wait to be served a mythical elixir which creates the perfect conditions, you would Never. Create. Anything.
The ‘Right Time’ is the time you set aside. While it may not be the optimal time, because we all know there’s times during the day when you’ve more energy, the brain is clearer and the act of creating seems easier, but that’s not always the time that’s available to you. You can’t rely or wait for that.
The only thing you can rely on is that you’ll show up and create, regardless of whatever mood you find yourself in, regardless of the whispers teasing you to do anything but create, regardless of the energy you find yourself left with.
Right now, is the right time to be creative.
ForM is by far my favourite group exhibition of the year to visit and I am honoured to have been one of artists involved in it this year.
If you missed the exhibition, here’s a round up.
