Edges, Art and Misfits
Rarely do we ask, 'what's it like in the middle?' but it's common to question 'how did it end?' or 'how did you get started?'
And that's because Edges are interesting - they're how we like to define things.
For example, it doesn't matter how good the body of a ceramic pot is, if the rim or the foot is messy, the entire pot instantly becomes mediocre.
It doesn't matter how fancy your paint is, if there's no consideration between the hard, soft and lost edges of your paintings, the image you create will always appear amateur.
It doesn't matter how competent you are, if you don't utilise what you have that gives you an edge above the rest, you'll find it difficult to stand out from the crowd.
That is why we ought to seek out the edges of our work and sharpen them - they're what will help to cut through the noise.
The Misfit Collection Celebrates the Edges
Misfits are all about the Edges. They're the Outliers. The ones that don't fit neatly into a box. They're memorable because they're not typical.
Made using offcuts from bigger slab-built pieces. They were destined to be cast aside, scrapped and overlooked as cut-offs that didn’t fit within the confines of a conventional template.
Instead, each off-cut has been given unique hand-sculpted faces, showing there’s value in living on the edges, not fitting within the box and being a bit of a misfit.
