'Interconnected,' a new sculpture I've worked on over the past few months will be on display at the exhibition ‘Form’ which opens on Saturday 1 June in Bangor Walled Garden.

 The idea for this piece came about a few years back when I was looking at a classical sculpture and for some odd reason thought 'hmmm those tight elaborate curls remind me of little figures.' 

This thought stewed away in the subconscious and merged with how our hair follicles contain the history of  all the people of our past along with the concept of 'Six Degrees of Separation;'  The idea that we are six or fewer steps away from each other, creating a chain of "a friend of a friend" connecting any two people in a maximum of six steps.
 


How we are collectively closer than the perceived barriers we set.

Interconnected Stories:

Have you any interesting interconnected stories?  How you've somehow linked someone you just met to someone you know?  

With news everywhere talking about separation, a few stories that remind us how connected we are can only do good.

For example, my wedding planner from the South of Ireland turned out to live next door to my Great Uncle.  My husband's New York Manager grew up a street away from me, delivering papers to our house on his newspaper run.  A total stranger I got talking to at a Cyprus airport who was living in Amsterdam turned out to know one of my friends. I could go on!

Studio Notes

Studio Notes is my way of getting that extra bit of connection. Anyone who knows me personally will know that I'm pretty private, somewhat introverted and really not the best at having attention focused on me. I withdraw in large groups but thrive in smaller more intimate circles.

To me, emailing feels like that small circle which provides a more personal way of connecting with you all in a much deeper way than social media.
